
Russia's national team won 3 silver and 1 bronze medals at the 14 th International Geography Olympiad – iGeo, held from 2 to 8 August in Belgrade, Serbia. 4 students from Moscow and the Perm region represented Russia at the Olympics. 160 students from 41 countries took part in this competition.
The participants of the contest had to demonstrate not only knowledge of the subject discussed, but also a good knowledge of the English language – the official language of the Olympics. Young geographers competed in three disciplines: a written test, a multimedia test and a field observation. Tasks of the Olympiad was aimed at understanding the theoretical foundations of geography and the ability to apply knowledge in practice for commercial purposes.
One representative of Zelenograd – the eleventh-grader of school №853 Alen Kospanov was among the four Moscow citizens, participants of the Russian team. He successfully performed recently at the Baltic iGeo, where he also won the silver medal. Alen became the winner of all-Russian Olympiad in geography in 2016, in 2017 – he became the absolute winner of all-Russian Olympiad on geography.
